Why this page
Get My Public IP processes connection data (IP addresses) by nature. This page simply explains what is done with that data, what isn't, and how to contact us with any questions.
IP address and geolocation
When you view the home page or run a search on "Look up an IP", the IP address concerned is sent to a third-party geolocation service (with a backup service in case of unavailability) to determine the associated city, country and internet service provider. The result is cached on our server for only 5 minutes, then deleted automatically. We don't keep any history of looked-up IP addresses beyond this technical cache.
HTML5 geolocation
The "My precise location" page uses your browser's geolocation API, with your explicit authorisation on every visit. The coordinates obtained stay solely in your browser to display the map: they are never sent to our server.
Contact form
The information you enter (email, subject, message) is used only to reply to you by email and is not stored in a database.
Cookies
Consent for cookies (advertising and audience measurement) is managed directly by Google's consent platform (Funding Choices). We do not set any cookies ourselves. Your display preference (light/dark mode) is stored in your browser's local storage (localStorage), which is not a cookie and is never sent to the server.
Third-party services used
The site relies on a few external services to function: a third-party IP geolocation service (whose identity can be shared on request via the contact form), OpenStreetMap/Leaflet (map display), Bunny Fonts (typeface, a privacy-friendly alternative to Google Fonts), Google AdSense (ad network) and Google Analytics (anonymised audience measurement). The latter two share the same cookie consent management platform. These services may receive the IP address needed for their technical operation.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have a right to access, rectify and erase data concerning you. Given the above, this data is already reduced to the strict technical minimum and erased automatically within minutes. For any question, contact us via the contact form.
