How is a VPN or proxy detected?
The IP addresses of VPN providers, proxies and hosting companies (datacentres) are generally known and catalogued in classification databases, since they belong to network blocks dedicated to that use rather than to consumer connections. This tool queries one of these databases to indicate whether the searched IP matches it.
A "hosting/datacenter" status doesn't automatically mean VPN: it can also be a web server or a regular cloud service. No detection of this kind is guaranteed to be 100% accurate, and some VPNs remain undetectable.
